Inner Wheel Club of Colombo and the INNER WHEEL CLUB OF SINGAPORE WEST partnered together in the centennial year of Inner Wheel to provide sanitation and hygiene by donating the Girls toilets at the Pahala Mattala Primary School in Lunugumvehera, Hambantota .The rural school is located on the perimeters of the Lunugumvehera national park and is affected by the human elephant conflict. The children at the school are from the farming community in the adjacent village and those facing economic hardship.
The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo also gifted the children at the Pahala Mattala school new shoes for the academic year 2024. All 86 children boys and girls were gifted school shoes and socks and a snack pack of a milk packet ,biscuits and chocolates sponsored by Cargills Ceylon . The principal and teachers were also rewarded with gift vouchers as an appreciation for their dedicated service. The principal’s office also received a filing cupboard for storage purposes and a collection of beautiful children’s books were donated to the school library.
The icing on the cake on a very hot sunny day was the arrival of the ice cream truck at the end of the days ceremony and gleeful delights of laughter and excitement filled the compound with shouts of “ice cream” which were handed out to all present at the occasion and was generously sponsored by #elephanthouse
